  • e- residency in estonia?

Sharing the story of e-Estonia & guiding public/private sector entities on digitalisation. Building links to leading IT-service providers.

    cosa ne pensate?
e-Residency offers to every world citizen a government-issued digital identity and the opportunity to run a trusted company online, unleashing the world’s entrepreneurial potential.

The Republic of Estonia is the first country to offer e-Residency — a transnational digital identity available to anyone in the world interested in administering a location-independent business online. e-Residency additionally enables secure and convenient digital services that facilitate credibility and trust online.
    e-Residents can:
    • Digitally sign documents and contracts
    • Verify the authenticity of signed documents
    • Encrypt and transmit documents securely
    • Establish an Estonian company online. A physical address in Estonia is required to establish an Estonian company. An Estonian address may be obtained via an external service provider.
    • Administer the company from anywhere in the world.
    • Conduct e-banking and remote money transfers. Establishing an Estonian bank account currently requires one in-person meeting at the bank. E-residents are not guaranteed bank accounts and may establish them at the sole discretion of our banking partners.
    • Access online payment service providers
    • Declare Estonian taxes online. e-Residency does not automatically establish tax residency. To learn about taxation and to avoid double taxation please consult a tax professional.

All of these (and more) efficient and easy-to-use services have been available to Estonians for over a decade. By offering e-Residents the same services, Estonia is proudly pioneering the idea of a country without borders.
e-Residents receive a smart ID card which provides:
    • digital identification and authentication to secure services
    • digital signing of documents
    • digital verification of document authenticity
    • document encryption

Digital signatures and authentication are legally equivalent to handwritten signatures and face-to-face identification in Estonia and between partners upon agreement anywhere around the world. Recent changes in EU law mean that within the next few years Estonian e-residents will be able to easily identify themselves, access online services, and conduct business across Europe. The e-Resident ID card and services are built on state-of-the-art technological solutions, including 2048-bit public key encryption. The smart ID card contains a microchip with two security certificates: one for authentication, called PIN1, and another for digital signing, called PIN2. PIN1 is a minimum 4-digit number used for authorization, and PIN2 is a minimum 5-digit number for digital signing.
e-Residency does not confer citizenship, tax residency, residence or right of entry to Estonia or to the European Union. The e-Resident smart ID card is not a physical identification or a travel document, and does not display a photo.
    Kaspar Korjus, e-Residency Programme Manager:
„We deeply appreciate the vast amount of positive feedback we have received so far – it is an exciting journey to embark on and we are eager to see where it will lead. Since we are still in early beta, there are some challenges to overcome. We have added a Help box (below right), and we encourage you to help us improve the experience on any of the services.“

Non c'entra niente con la residenza, è una semplice carta servizi.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.

                          A proposito , ricevuta ieri sera :

                          Dear current and future e-residents,

In recent months and especially after Brexit, we have received a lot of questions about how exactly e-residents can establish companies. To answer these questions, we have created a very practical newsletter this time; please find step-by-step instructions for establishing a company below.

But, before you start reading, please have a look at this recent Guardian article which attracted thousands of new visitors to the e-Residency webpage: “A Brexit bolthole? For 100 euros you can become an e-resident of an EU country you’ve never visited.” Also, feel free to share it with your entrepreneurial friends who may be looking for ways to establish and run a location independent company.

How to register a company in Estonia?

Alternative 1: Do it yourself via the Company Registration Portal

                          1. [*=left]Obtain a physical address for your company from a respective service provider. This can be done from 15 euros per month.
[*=left]Log in to the Company Registration Portal
                            1. Through the Company Registration Portal you can register different types of business entities. The most popular type is the private limited company.
                            2. Choose a name for your company. The company´s name must be distinguishable from other already registered business names and trademarks; you can determine the suitability of a potential company name by comparing it against already registered business names and trademarks.
                            3. While preparing the registration application you must choose one planned principal activity, which is your company’s main source of expected revenue in its first financial year. The company can have other activities as well.
                            4. The Company Registration Portal offers standard articles of association with various options. Draw up the best version for your company.
                            5. The share capital of a private limited company must be at least 2,500 euros. A company can be registered without making the initial payment of share capital. If you don’t have an Estonian bank account, it is easier to start a company without making the initial payment of share capital. You can make the payment after the company has been registered and a bank account has been opened, or later. Until the initial share capital has been paid, it is not possible to increase or decrease the share capital, and the private limited company cannot make any disbursements to the shareholders.
                            6. After you have finished the application, you have to pay state fee (190 euros). At the moment it is not possible to pay the state fee with a credit card, so you have to make a payment from your (foreign) bank account using the reference number and other information provided by the Company Registration Portal. After the arrival of the payment to the Ministry of Finance bank account, you can finalize the submission of the application.
                            7. The submitted application will be reviewed within one working day and notification about registration will be sent via email.
                            8. Once the company has been registered, you can open a bank account for the company. e-Residency does not guarantee a bank account. The decision to extend or deny banking services to an e-resident is made at the sole and absolute discretion of our partner banks.

If you decide to do this by yourself, you may find this e-resident’s blog helpful – eresident.me. In it, Stansilav describes establishing his company, acquiring a bank account and visiting the Estonian Tax and Customs Board.
